In grief came determination

I have spent the day crying and creating, lying down, crying and creating. It is a very rare occasion that I have zero appetite or become physically ill from grief. Anyone who thinks the loss of a pet is no biggie, clearly never had the right one or even a pet at all. Or simply they are narcissistic-sociopaths who have no real feelings to speak of. Whatever the case, luckily I have not been faced with that here in blogland.
The time it took you all to leave your comments left me feeling blessed. Somewhere, there you were thinking of me and my beloved family for whom you have never "really met". That is a very powerful thing & I am grateful for your time & support.

Somehow, I managed to finish 2 sculptures today and do a small painting. I just could not sit still. I needed to work. This happened when I found out my Gram had terminal cancer on Valentines Day 2 years ago. I finished 2 ambitious pieces that had been sitting unfinished for months. They are some of my absolute best work ever.
Something about grief can bring out the determination in me. Below is what I was determined to work on today. I do wonder if the circumstances of the day were different how would have the art differed?

Dani, I think my best work is when I am the most upset. I don't think it is suffering for your art, as non-artists would say. I believe it is art through suffering, and healing through art. The pain of your loss is terrible, and the sequence at my house was in four years: cat, dog, cat, and then my mother. I haven't had the guts to get another pet. I nursed the animals and my mother through their last days, and with the two cats, they were diabetics, so I was giving them insulin twice a day. Pet owners will always understand. Those who don't have animals never will.

I am soooooooo sorry for you lose. I do know the pain and it is very real and it cuts deep. My grandmother recently lost her beloved yorkie and said it was like losing a child. Now I can definately agree although i don't have kids it is losing a family member. You are strong and will work through it. As you showed us with the beautiful new pieces. Take care Dani we are here for you.

Dani - I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your precious 4-legged fur kid. I have been through this, and with the amount of them that I have here, I have a ton of heartbreak ahead of me. My heart aches for all of you! Hugs Tan

Oh Dani!!!!! How tragic to have lost your beloved "Furbaby"!!!!
I have two and I KNOW that I would be devastated too, just thinking about it is so heartbreaking! Their devotion to us is so pure,
all they ask is to be loved...Many blessing to you and yours for a better tomorrow filled with less sorrow and many beautiful memories.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss....your in my thoughts and prayers honey. Our doggies are always apart of my family, so I know what you are going through. Your art is lovely, even though it was done out of sadness, it's great!! Take care, Jackie

Oh Dani. I am so, SO sorry. I know that horrible feeling all too well.

What helped my household get through this last year was a small memorial. We buried our dog in a favorite spot and planted a small rhododendron. Going through the motions really helped, but taking a week prior to just GRIEVE really helped as well. We also made a donation in her name to the shelter where we adopted her. Our other dog had a very hard time of it so we made sure to spend extra time with her as well.

I am so sorry for your loss. You and your family and in my thoughts.

Hugs,
Rachel

Love your new pieces. Keeping our mind busy, when things upset us and we don't know what to do besides cry...is the best thing.

You take care Dani.

I am someone who truly understands. I believe there are two people in the world: Those who love animals and those who don't. I know how sad you are. I just posted a week ago about our families beloved kitty....My heart goes out to you. We know they won't be here forever, but it is so hard to see them go....
A Hug to you,

Oh Dani,
I'm so so sorry! I am also one of those peolple who feel like a pet is another member of the family so the loss is huge. My little kitties are getting on in years and I dread the day...
Just remember what a good little life your dog had, we should all be so lucky!
